Educating About Discrimination

This is precisely where some children get their education daily doses. Who determines whether you feel comfortable with your image, you or your surrounding social atmosphere? This is an answer I’ll give for you, it is your atmosphere.

Society has taken our point of view about ourselves and tossed it, replacing it with the belief of the masses. This being good looks is so desired by everyone, it’s worth surgery and any amount of money. The concept of inner beauty is never discovered because the time was never taken to get that deep to find it. Childhood is where we all started discovering what looks meant and what they got you.

That’s why I believe that the aesthetic discrimination starts at the parental level. Parents must curve their whole way of thinking to give their children a chance to make their own assumptions and decisions as they grow older. The child’s role models can try as they might but in the end they can only give positive and negative reinforcement to try and mold the outcome. And even in the best of situations, the child may still grow to discriminate freely among the gamut of things to choose from. Taking all this into consideration it is the parent’s responsibility to point the child in the right direction. Not only by saying do as I say, but also do as I do.

As the child begins and progresses through school the teacher and peers surrounding that child become very important in the up bringing process. As anything else in life, if there is not a strong base for the teacher to start from, it becomes very difficult to teach the child education as well as shape their moral outlook. Teachers should be dedicating time to focus on education and not sorting out social injustices. If one was to present itself in the classroom setting, the teacher should be a reminding force to the student and not teaching new concepts. The teachers do control a very important atmosphere that must remain positive for the students. Teachers have grown so scared, with good reason, to suggest any type of behavior to a student. Parents tend to think that they are the only force or role model that their children should see and they are sadly mistaken.

You also have the parent that sends their child to school to not only get the book education, but learn how to act in a social setting as well. Teachers are very important in aiding the development of today’s children, and the word aid means helping parents, not doing it for them.
We as a society need to change as a whole to better serve the youth of tomorrow. Educating children about discrimination is where these stereotypes began and education is where the will end.

Scrying – Seeing the Future in Your Crystal Ball

There are many tools used by fortune tellers, magical practitioners, and psychics for predicting the future. The crystal ball is a tool that most everyone is familiar with through popular culture, though very few people actually know the theory behind the use of the ball for gazing.

The practice of using a reflective surface to “receive” psychic images is an ancient one. A variety of reflective surfaces can be used for scrying such as mirrors, crystals, crystal balls, and still pools or bowls of water. Nostradamus is said to have used a scrying bowl when divining the future. Scrying mirrors are pieces glass that are painted black on one side so that the surface gives a dim but clear reflection.

The art of scrying itself involves meditating while staring at a reflective surface in a dimly lit room. The room is usually only lit with the light of a candle. After a short time of staring at the reflective surface, images will begin to flicker before the eyes of the person who is scrying. The images are then interpreted and a description is written down. The traditional crystal ball gazing method is usually used when scrying for someone else and the images are interpreted aloud for the client. This method is the one that has been popularized and has been seen in countless television shows and movies.

The art of scrying is fairly easy to learn and the tools are relatively inexpensive. Practicing meditation on a daily basis is helpful in finding and maintaining the proper level of consciousness that is needed for successful scrying. First you need to have a quiet room where you will not be disturbed. The lighting must be as dim as possible. Candlelight is most conducive to the scrying process. Lavender is excellent for relaxing the mind and stimulating the third eye. Some soft meditation music playing in the background can help you to clear, relax, and focus your mind. Make sure that you are seated comfortably upon a meditation pillow with your scrying surface directly in front of you in a position that is right for you. As you are staring into the reflective surface of your scrying tool, you will want to stare past your own reflection until it fades. After several minutes you will begin to see random images. They don’t always make sense at first, but eventually with a little practice you may begin to see things that will later come to pass.

Scrying is a form of meditation that utilizes and strengthens the third eye which is also known as the sixth chakra or Ajna. It is through this spiritual energy center that we are able to perceive that which is otherwise beyond the means of experiencing in the physical here and now. This includes foreseeing the future through scrying as well as other means of clairvoyance such as remote viewing. By meditating daily and becoming aware of the seven spiritual energy centers or chakras, you can greatly enhance your scrying ability. Scrying is a passive ability and therefore does not require conscious concentration or mental effort to perform. If you try too hard your conscious rational mind will get in the way creating noise and interference that is impossible too see through. The more you relax your mind and let go of preconceived conscious expectations the clearer the images will be.

Summer HEAT 2006 Offers Professional Development Opportunities for Teachers in Miami

An Overview of Summer Heat 2006

Miami Schools are offering a range of summer professional development courses for its public school teachers and administrators in order to help teachers meet federal requirements and learn new methods and approaches to teaching. Teachers are eligible to take one Summer Heat course. These courses will be offered during June and July. Most courses last about a week and meet from 8:15 AM to 3:15 PM daily.

The teacher must attend every day of the session in order to receive Master Plan Points. The Miami – Dade County School District’s Master Plan Points Program help teachers earn the graduate level credits that they need to meet the Highly Qualified Teacher Status outlined by the No Child Left Behind Act. Six Master Plan Points per day are awarded for all the courses with the exception of those that grant actual college credit.

Professional Development for Teachers

Miami – Dade County School District teachers benefit from a range of courses that help focus their teaching on special at – risk groups as well as providing instruction in key subject areas. Many courses focus on the needs of children with Limited English Proficiency. These courses help teachers improve literacy of Limited English Proficiency students as well as learn culturally sensitive techniques for including such children in the general classroom. Other special groups include children with autism and children with behavioral problems.

The Effects Of Genetic And Environmental Factors On IQ

For the last 140 years, scholars have been preoccupied with identifying the exact factors that influence one’s IQ. The numerous studies on the subject have led most scientists nowadays to the belief that one’s IQ is determined by a variety of both genetic and environmental factors, although there is contention about the exact weight of each.

The majority of studies on intelligence have shown that environmental factors account for about 25% of the differences in people’s IQ scores. The factors that have been of greatest interest to scholars include prenatal development, nutrition, birth order, home and family environment, and the effects of schooling.

Prenatal development

Scientists have discovered many factors during a woman’s pregnancy that could affect a child’s cognitive development. Among them are:

… the mother’s health, including her nutrition and smoking and drinking habits during pregnancy, her age and the number of previous pregnancies, the interval since her last pregnancy, blood type and Rh incompatibility of mother and fetus, her history of X-ray exposure, and her red blood cell count, to list a few (Jensen; 169).

They have discovered that differences in school quality have no detectable influence on a child’s intelligence test scores. What proves to be of greater significance is regular school attendance, especially in elementary school.

Genetic factors

Besides environmental influences, most scientists today believe that genes also play a part in determining one’s IQ. However, there is currently an intense debate whether genetic or environmental factors are the deciding influence.

To sum up, science has come a long way in understanding the different factors that shape one’s intelligence. However, there are still contentious issues that need to be clarified.
