Learning the Spanish alphabet

September 28, 2009 Uncategorized No Comments

If you want to learn Spanish, it’s important for you to learn the Spanish alphabet. You need to learn the proper pronunciation of each letter of the alphabet. Then you are ready to study the language.

Many of the rules and punctuation in the Spanish language are a combination of Latin and Arabic languages. For this reason, if you’re first language is based on these languages, learning Spanish will be easier. The alphabet uses the Latin alphabet with a few variations.

Some of the variations on the Latin alphabet include:

o There are vowels both with and without accents
o The vowels with the accents are a variation of the unaccented vowel.
o The letter n is used with or without a tilde. Each of these variations is considered to be a separate letter.
o The diagraphs ll and ch are considered separate letters in the alphabet.

Letters and Pronunciation of the Spanish Alphabet

Letters and Pronunciations

The letter is listed to the left, with the pronunciation of each letter:

A is pronounced /a/

There are some letters that make the sounds of other letters in the English language. The letter j sounds like the letter h in English. The letter V sounds like the letter B. The letter Z sounds like the letter S. The letter R in Spanish makes a rolling R sound that is somewhat similar to the English pronunciation.

Other Information About the Spanish Alphabet

The vowel accents in the Spanish language serve two purposes. The first purpose is for marking the stress. This helps with pronunciation when you are first learning the language. The other purpose is to differentiate between words.

In the written language, the default stress is on the last syllable of a word. When a word ends in a consonant, the stress is on the last syllable. As in many languages, the rules don’t always apply. There are a few exceptions to the rules of stress.

Words that don’t follow the default stress include an accent on the stressed vowel. The rules of the language include using a syllable count to assign written accents to words. Learning this helps in learning the Spanish language.

Spend time becoming familiar with the Spanish alphabet and pronunciation of each letter. This will make learning the language and becoming fluent much easier. There are many websites that offer additional information on pronouncing the letters. Some have recorded pronunciation. You click the letter and listen to the letter pronounced. Then you can try to imitate the sounds you hear.

Accelerating Absorption and Evaporation

September 28, 2009 Uncategorized No Comments

How can we assist in flooded areas after natural disasters to get rid of the water faster? How can we allow the soil to soak up more water in order to remove some? How can we get the water to evaporate quicker and help in the clean-up efforts? Did you know that large lakes can lose several inches in just a few very hot summer days due to evaporation?

What if we could increase the evaporation 10-fold and allow for much faster absorption of the freestanding water after flood events, Hurricanes or Torrential rains? If we could, we could save ourselves millions of dollars during clean ups and potentially prevent Mosquito populations from getting a foothold and further causing issues with diseases and unbearable situations for clean up crews and residents who are trying to rebuild. There may be a way to do all this and more; how so you ask?

Well we can use super high-energy lasers to super heat the water and cause it to steam and thus slightly sterilize it and cause instant evaporation. Providing there is a wind, the water will make its self into a cloud and blow away. The 2200 plus degree laser will kill the Mosquito larva and this will decrease much of the freestanding water. For instance in New Orleans many swimming pools are filled with disease infested, Mosquito making and polluted water. We can fix that. Perhaps we should consider this in 2006.

Army Mobile Command Center for UAV Launch

September 28, 2009 Uncategorized No Comments

After visiting the Denver RC Modeler Club one day as they practiced for the national finals in PHX that year, we attempted a touch and go landing on our Blitz Mobile, which is a 74 foot long NASCAR type truck and trailer. Probably nothing more than a Fighter Pilots son from the cold war wanting to re-invent the aircraft carrier concept on a almost nano scale? We were successful on doing a touch and bounce on the top of the trailer without too much difficulty. It appears that a tractor trailer rig specially designed with panels on top which folded out ward to extend the length of the flat surface on top would be adequate to launch and recover many hundred small UAVs. These UAVs could be launched one after another to form swarms for surveillance or to overwhelm the enemy. We did not have any automous UAVs with us on this day of testing and proving concept, but we did use a model aircraft, which was large enough to prove it will work. Here is the unit we used:

truckwashguy.com/truckdetail.shtml

Now today the units are much more agile and better suited for such a mission. We also on that day launched the model airplane from the top of the truck with relative ease. Meaning an Army Command center such as this:

techtv.com/news/culture/story/0…3396286,00.html

Would be sufficient. Now the aircraft or UAVs would be vertically stacked on the center in the back. Like a pez dispenser, when it was time to launch the first ten or twelve would be pre-assembled and in the spring activated dispenser, which raises them to the roof and then they would launch. They would fly to 300 feet, satellite would ping them for GPS verification and they would be released to autonomous flight. All the rest of the beginning sequence would be turned off and no frequency would be emitting or received only a blip every so often from satellite to pin-point position. If off track the satellite would send re-positioning data for 1-2 seconds and turn off again, terrain following would be sound waves from the UAV itself or from satellite, or even abort sequence to divert the aircraft straight down to self destruct. After the first few are launched other units could be quickly assembled and put in the pez dispenser elevator for the next launch sequence. One command center could carry up to 200-400 flying machines. UAVs. Do you think this could work? Think about it.

Naturopathic Colleges Today

September 28, 2009 Uncategorized No Comments

Find Naturopathic Colleges in the United States and Canada. Today, naturopathic colleges provide comprehensive curriculums that involve roughly 4,000-5,000 hours of study. Before prospective students apply to one of a number of naturopathic colleges, it is important that prerequisites are carefully reviewed as most of these learning institutions require a minimum of a 4-year baccalaureate degree from an accredited school or university.

Students who enroll in naturopathic colleges can anticipate rigorous coursework in a range of scientific subject matter entailing anatomy, biochemistry, histology, embryology, microbiology, pathology, pharmacology, nutrition, physiology, and other associated natural health and human sciences. In addition, naturopathic colleges provide in-depth coursework in botanical medicine, hydrotherapy, Oriental medicine, homeopathy, massage, and environmental medicine – to list a variety of the diverse instruction.

Often subdivided into semesters, educational programs in naturopathic colleges give candidates necessary skills and knowledge to earn a degree in naturopathic medicine. This allows graduates to become Doctors of Naturopathic Medicine. (N.D.) Depending on state and/or province, naturopathic doctors must ordinarily sit for board examination to become licensed naturopathic practitioners. While a number of states and provinces license N.D.s as primary care physicians, it is essential that prospective students of naturopathic colleges examine state regulations to determine the scope of practice permitted by governing organizations.

Knowledge and history acquired in naturopathic colleges prove beneficial as many of the healing systems that are facilitated in naturopathic medicine involve borrowed wisdoms from Arabian, Ayurvedic, Chinese, Egyptian, European and Greek medicine. Some of the therapies learned at naturopathic colleges include botanical medicine treatments, clinical nutrition, homeopathic medicine, mind-body-spirit medicine, among other natural medicines. Candidates who have graduated from naturopathic colleges will apply these unique, natural healing techniques and therapies to patients.

Educating and treating patients as a “whole” person, naturopathic medicine doctors focus on disease prevention and overall health and wellness. With one of the fundamental principle of naturopathic medicine being to “first do no harm,” naturopathic doctors are not just viewed as primary health care providers, but as teachers as well.

Because complementary and alternative medicine is becoming a widely-accepted form of healthcare, professional outlook is positive; and as a graduate from one of several naturopathic colleges, you have the opportunity to become a successful entrepreneur in a private healthcare clinic, wellness facility or other healthcare related organization.

Birds: Some Facts About These Fascinating Creatures

September 27, 2009 Uncategorized No Comments

Among all the groups of creatures in the world, birds are probably the most beloved ones. Everybody loves birds, they roost and nest on our buildings and trees and we love to watch them. They are easy to find and observe. They are colorful and good singers! Who doesn’t love them?

The total number of birds on the planet are difficult to estimate since the number fluctuates seasonally, but an accurate guess would be around 100,000 – 200,000 adult birds in 9,703 species divided in 23 orders and 142 families, from the poles to the tropics.

Red-billed Quelea is known to be the most common wild bird from the south of the Sahara in Africa. Millions of these birds are killed every year to control their numbers. Red Jungle Fowl, which is seen as the common domestic chicken, is the most common bird in all over the world. The European House Sparrow is the most widespread commonly seen wild bird. It has been transported by the European settlers and now you can see them in two thirds of countries, even in Australia, New Zealand, India, Europe and North America.

The heaviest bird, Dromornis Stirtoni from Australia lived some 1-15 million years, was 500 kg and 3m tall. The tallest bird was Dinornus Maximus from New Zealand. The bird with the longest wingspan, 6 meters, is the Giant Teratorn from South America. The smallest bird, 1.6g, is the Bee Hummingbird from Cuba. Another small bird is the little Woodstar from South America. They both fly competently. The smallest bird which cannot fly is the Inaccessible Island Rail. You can find it in the south Atlantic Tristan de Cunha Islands.

When you start to watch birds, one thing you will notice is that they are present only for some of the time; around 1,500 – 4,000 species of birds migrate. Some travel south in winter, some don’t. Most of the time this is not migration, but dispersal which is caused by a population boom. This can occur every 4 – 10 years. Another irregular eruption is caused by the destruction or loss of food.

A major factor in many birds life is seasonal migration, involving long distances. It is known that Swifts, Swallows and some small Passerines are migratory birds. You can see them in summer but not in winter. Likewise ducks and geese are only seen in winter in the UK. They return to the north in summer to breed. It is not very well known that some of the regular birds are migrants as well. Robins and Starlings for example, either leave or come to Britain during the winter. In general, birds move to the south. But we never have a time of the year that we do not see any birds around. That’s because when some of the birds living in our area migrate to the south, their northern cousins also move to the south to be our guests for the winter. And we enjoy watching these fascinating creatures throughout the year.

Types of Forensic Science

September 27, 2009 Uncategorized 1 Comment

Criminalistics is the application of various sciences to answer questions relating to examination and comparison of biological evidence, trace evidence, impression evidence (such as fingerprints, shoeprints, and tire tracks), controlled substances, firearms, and other evidence in criminal investigations. Some of the forensic science disciplines are detailed under.

Forensic odontology is the study of uniqueness of dentition of all human beings. Also known as Forensic Dentistry, it deals with proper handling, examination and evaluation of dental evidence, which is then presented in the interest of justice. The evidence that may be derived from teeth is the age, in case of children, and also identification of the person to whom the teeth belong. This is done using dental records or ante-mortem that is, before death photographs. The other type of evidence is that of bite marks, left on either the victim (by the attacker), the perpetrator (from the victim of an attack), or on an object found at the crime scene. Bite marks have often been found on children who are abused.

Forensic toxicology refers to the use of toxicology to aid medico-legal investigation of death using poisoning. Several toxic substances do not produce characteristic lesions. In such as case, if a toxic reaction is suspected, visual investigation may not suffice. A forensic toxicologist must consider the context of an investigation, in particular, if any physical symptoms are recorded, as also any evidence collected at the crime scene that may narrow down the search, such as pill bottles, powders, trace residue, and any available chemicals. Armed with this information, a forensic toxicologist can determine which toxic substances were present, in what concentrations and the probable effects of those chemicals on the person. Determining the substance ingested is often complicated by the body’s natural processes, as it is rare for a chemical to remain in its original form once in the body.

Forensic engineering deals with the causes of failure of devices and structures. It is the investigation of materials, products, structures or components that fail to operate or do not function as intended. A criminal aspect is possible in any investigation but is not always the case as civil cases are much more common. Generally, the purpose of any forensic engineering investigation is to locate cause or causes of failure with a view to improve performance or life of a component. It also involves the investigation of intellectual property claims, especially patents. Methods used in forensic investigations include reverse engineering, inspection of witness statements, a working knowledge of current standards, as well as the examination of the failed component itself. The fractured surface of a failed product can reveal much information as to how the item failed and the loading pattern prior to its failure.

Forensic economics is the study and interpretation of the economic damage evidence that includes present day calculations of lost earnings and benefits, the lost value of a business, lost business profits, lost value of household service, replacement labor costs and future medical care costs. Forensic accounting on the other hand, is defined as the study and interpretation of accounting evidence

Forensic psychology and forensic psychiatry deals with the legal aspects of human behavior. They deal with the application of psychological principles and knowledge to various legal activities involving child custody disputes, child abuse of an emotional, physical and sexual nature, assessing one’s personal capacity to manage one’s affairs, matters of competency to stand trial, criminal responsibility and personal injury and advising judges in matters relating to sentencing regarding various mitigates and the actuarial assessment of future risks.

Forensic anthropology is the application of physical anthropology in a legal setting, usually for the recovery and identification of the skeletal remains of the dead body whereas Forensic entomology deals with the examination of infesting insects in, on, and around human remains to assist in determination of time or location of death. Forensic evidence is referred to as the scientific evidence collected from a crime scene.
