Summary on Sharks!

April 29, 2009 Uncategorized No Comments

Sharks are wonderful animals that have been around since as long as the dinosaurs existed: They inhabit in waters all over the world, in every sea, and even in some lakes and tributaries.

There are around 358 unique species of sharks that can be divided into thirty different families. These families are all very special in the way they live, eat, and appear. All sharks have different sizes, shapes, teeth, teeth, fins, habitat, diet, personality, method of reproduction, and other attributes. Some species of shark are very rare—great white shark–and others might be common–dogfish shark. All sharks belong to the domain of cartilaginous fish—Elasmobranches. This group also includes shakes and stingrays. Sharks are also one type of fish that have no bones–only cartilage. Some parts of their skeleton—their spine–are full of calcium. Although, most sharks do not chew their food, but gulp it down whole it in large pieces, many sharks have up to 3000 teeth in their entire jaw. Their teeth are arranged in rows. If one tooth is damaged or lost, it often substituted by another. Most sharks can have around five rows of teeth at a single time. Although they may have many rows of teeth, the front set of teeth is the largest and does most of the chewing.

Unlike the bony kind of fish, sharks are boneless: Their skeleton is made of only cartilage, which is a very strong, fibrous material but not nearly as hard as bone. Also unlike bony fish Sharks also have no gal bladder. There are many different types of sharks that can range in size from as big as a human’s hand to bigger than a minivan. Adult sharks can grow to a size from seven inches long–Spine Pygmy shark– up fifteen meters in length–the Whale shark. Although there are some exceptions, generally sharks are medium in size, and are about the same length as humans; around five to seven feet tall. The fact is half of the three hundred sixty eight, shark species are actually less than one meter in length.

Sharks come in many different types of body shapes. Generally, sharks have a streamlined, torpedo-shaped body that can easily glide through the water. Although, some bottom-dwelling sharks—angel sharks– have flattened bodies that allow them to hide in the sand of the ocean bed. Even some sharks have an elongated body shapes–cookie cutter sharks. For instance, the Saw sharks have extra long snouts, thrasher sharks have a extraordinary elongated upper tail fin, which they use to paralyze prey, and hammerheads have extraordinarily wide heads. And finally, the Goblin shark has a giant, pointed spike on its head, making it seem like a goblin.

Most sharks reside in relatively warm waters; like the bull sharks, tiger sharks and hammer-head shark. The minority of sharks, such as the mako, thresher, basking and blue shark, live in temperate water, which is neither very cold nor hot. Many other sharks, including the Greenland, Globin and dogfish shark, inhabit in even cooler waters! Some sharks stay in the same region their entire lives while others will migrate across oceans in search of breeding grounds.

Whether To Homeschool Your Child

April 28, 2009 Uncategorized No Comments

One of the first questions you need to ponder when deciding whether to homeschool your child is to define to yourself what exactly is homeschooling to you. What does it mean to you to homeschool your child? If you can’t pin down exactly what your definition of homeschooling is, then you will struggle with the very decision you are trying to make. And that’s just the beginning.

You won’t be able to make clear cut decisions on the other aspects of homeschooling that need to be answered down the road. Such as: what type of homeschool curriculum (pre-packaged or non at all)? What type of homeschool teaching methodology do I use? If you can’t answer these questions then you won’t be able to determine what type of resources should I target to research or what type of homeschool materials and homeschool supplemental materials should I purchase?

Another critical question to ask yourself is how much do I enjoy being around my children? Now wait a moment… You’re probably saying… What on earth kind of question it that! Of course, I love my children! Understood, but think of that question in the context of being around your children ’round the clock with sometimes… no breaks.

If two parents are involved are you both in agreement on the decision to homeschool. I can’t tell you how important this one is. It’s huge. Homeschooling is going to affect your entire day. All of the household chores with now a homeschool schedule are going to change the way you and your family move about during the day.

Depending upon your current job schedule, think about how homeschooling your child is going to affect your income. With the family potentially down to one income, how will this be budgeted out? Crunch the numbers folks. It’s very important.

Hopefully these few questions will get you started down the path of asking and answering more and more. Have these discussions with the rest of your family and make sure that all those affected by your homeschooling decision are on board with the plan.

Plan for success and work your plan.

Lie Detector – To Lie Or Not To Lie

April 28, 2009 Uncategorized No Comments

The Science Of Lies

The lie detector test is a way to obtain evidence in court cases, as well as to determine the character of potential and current employees. Many people see the lie detector test as controversial and intrusive. There are also those in favor of the lie detector test who say that it is impossible to tell whether someone is lying or not or if someone is engaging his/herself in deceptive behavior. Professionals involved in this science do not like to use the term lie detector, and would rather use polygraph. A polygraph machine monitors the levels of many different bodily functions (heart rate, perspiration, etc.). The person judging the test looks at the answers given and the body’s reaction to the questions to determine if the subject is engaging in deceptive behaviors. The machine was once an analog machine that would scribble lines on graph paper as the paper scrolled automatically, and now it is digital.

What Does It Do?

The polygraph detector measures the respiratory rate, the heart rate, and the amount of perspiration on the finger tips of the subject. The examiner will assess the results of the test and study any differences in spikes and results of the behavior. The subject in question is hooked up with wires and tubes to the lie detector machine. The professional examiner will first get to know his/her subject and the subject’s version of the story. The lie detector is not used at this part of the testing process. The examiner uses his/her own observation to record and monitor how the subject responds. The next step is a list of specially designed questions created by the examiner. He/she reviews these questions with the subject prior to turning on the lie detector test. The actual lie detector test will be about 60-70% control questions, which are general questions many people have trouble answering “no” too. The other 30-40% will be questions related directly to the situation at hand. The test is considered an exact science by those who are well-trained in its processes. These “scientists” take into account the subject’s cultural background, religious beliefs, etc., and will only ask questions that will elicit “true” biological responses on the lie detector machine.

Controversy

The men and women who argue against the lie detector test state that there are both false positives and false negatives with the test. A false positive is where someone tells the truth, but it reads as a lie, and a false negative is where someone lies and it reads as the truth. Some believe there is a way for someone to beat the machine by doing something such as biting their lip each tip a question is posed. This elicits the same bodily reaction each time. One of the biggest noted problems with polygraph tests is the inconsistency in the professional examiners. There are states that allow virtually anyone to become a polygraph examiner, while other states require extensive, on-going training and certification. Until all of these issues surrounding the polygraph test are resolved, there will be controversy regarding its practice, validity, and its use in the courtroom.

My Master’s Degree – How Should I Talk And Write About It?

April 28, 2009 Uncategorized No Comments

There are many circumstances in which foreign student have to talk about their intentions to study for advanced degrees. Statements of purpose written to accompany applications for university admission are the most obvious case, but the same situation comes up in interviews with recruiters, IELTS Speaking Tasks, and verbal interactions of all kinds with the officials at the universities you will be attending.

Unfortunately, it’s the time many foreign students say things that sound the least “English.” As a result, these unavoidable statements can often suggest that your command of English is weak. Even though all the native English speakers who regularly hear foreign students make these statements have long gotten used to hearing them spoken incorrectly, the mistake always registers with them at some level, however unconsciously.

To make the best impression on university administrators and IELTS examiners, use the right language to talk about your degree and your academic sentences.

The following are the most common mistakes:

“I’m going to learn a master’s degree.”
“I’m going to study a master’s degree.”
“I plan to learn a master degree.”

Don’t make these unnecessary but common mistakes. All that is necessary for you not to make them is to understand clearly what the appropriate words are and mean.

- A “master’s degree” is a noun. When written, it always has an apostrophe, that is, “master’s degree,” not “masters degree” or, worse, “master degree.”

- A master’s degree is not, however, a field of study. We don’t study a master’s degree, we study a field in which we earn (or, more colloquially, “get”) a maser’s degree. Therefore, in English, we say that we plan “to earn a master’s degree in marketing [or the name of some other field].”

- The degree is what we get as a result of studying, not what we study. So, when we talk about studying, we normally say, “I plan to study economics [or some other field].” It’s not incorrect to say, “I plan to learn marketing,” but “I plan to study marketing” is more normal, idiomatic English.

- The certificate that confirms that we have successfully completed a course of study and earned an advanced degree (not necessarily a master’s degree) is called a “diploma.” You can say, “I plan to earn a diploma in marketing,” or, if you have completed the degree, “I have a diploma in economics.” But if you do, realize that a native English speaker will not necessarily understand which graduate degree you have earned.

- The most appropriate verbs to use with “master’s degree,” prior to receiving the degree, are “study for,” “earn,” or “pursue.” So, you should say, “I plan to study for a master’s degree in communications,” or “I plan to earn a master’s degree in marketing,” or “I plan to pursue a master’s degree in engineering.”

This may seem like a minor matter in terms of language. However, making the most common mistakes can lead a university official or IELTS examiner to think less of your English language skills or, in the worst case, your intelligence.

So, practice writing and saying these simple but important sentences correctly.

Incorrect: I’m going to study a master degree.
Correct: I’m going to study for a master’s degree.

Incorrect: I will study a master’s degree of marketing.
Correct: I will study for a master’s degree in marketing.

Incorrect: I will learn a masters degree in economics.
Correct: I plan to earn a master’s degree in economics.

The Best Way to Give a Psychic Reading

April 27, 2009 Uncategorized No Comments

The best way to ever give a psychic reading is directly from your heart. Millions of people are in need of getting a psychic reading almost daily. You have to just allow yourself to come forward in order to give someone a lot of love and a lot of psychic advice.

People that get psychic readings are usually interested in how you can help them to see something that may not be so clear to them. This may involve you spending more time during a psychic reading with another person or it may make you feel as though you have to discipline yourself in order to give someone an accurate psychic reading. Sometimes a good psychic reading takes a lot out of you spiritually. You often have to practice mind control and feel like someone is going to give you a lot of love.

A person that wishes to receive a psychic reading usually has some idea in the back of their mind as to what the psychic reading should look like once it is all over. If you find that sometimes you can’t understand something, then you should ask a master psychic who will be able to open your eyes to new and different things. A good master psychic will be able to show and tell you how to read better.

Becoming a master psychic is never easy. It takes a whole lot of discipline and a lot of meditation. You have to practice mind control on a daily basis if you are ever to advance yourself in a psychic career. The more focused you are, the more you will be able to focus on a clients problems and you will be able to better instruct them on what to do. A good psychic client will always allow you to read from your heart. Other psychic clients may give you a hard time during a psychic reading and pressure you to give them more information than what you know you are able to give.

If you feel called to give someone a psychic reading, just try to stay relaxed. Remember that a client is trying to focus in on you as much as you are on them. You must also try to remember that you are not perfect and not every client is going to think that you are a ten start psychic. You must remember that you are in charge of the psychic reading and you must control the circumstances that are around you. You know the best way in which you can pick up accurate information. Never let clients tell you how you should read. If they are coming to you for a psychic reading, then they should already know that you have an already down pat format for giving psychic readings. The more that you read, the better you will become.
